Passenger diesel locomotive TEP70BS with power supply of train cars

A modification of TEP70BS for double traction has also been developed.

The first diesel locomotive TEP70BS was built in 2002, its serial production started in 2006.

TEP70BS is designed for hauling superior comfort passenger trains on non-electrified railway main lines with gauge 1520 mm.

According to GOST 15150-69 climatic version of TEP70BS has symbol “U”.

Technical description

Passenger mainline diesel locomotive TEP70BS is equipped with diesel-generator 2А-9DG-01 including diesel engine 16ChN26/26 produced by Kolomensky Zavod and traction unit installed on a common bed plate. The engine representing a standardized engine family D49 is 4-cycle, 16-cylinder V-type turbocharged diesel engine with charge air cooling. The locomotive is provided with a.c.-d.c. transmission including traction unit ASTM 2800/600-1000U2 (traction and auxiliary synchronous generators in a single housing), rectifier set V-TPPDRE-6,3к-1к/02к-3кU2 and six d.c. traction electric motors EDU – 133R UKHL1.

Locomotive equipment is installed in a wagon body having framework without diagonal brace and welded iron sheathing included in load-bearing structure The locomotive body has 2 cabs, engine room and 2 tambours. The body roof consists of separate detachable sections which make assembly and repair of the equipment installed in the locomotive easy. The loading pattern of the body frame includes channels of centralized air supply system for electric machinery and devices. Diesel-generator and other equipment are located in engine room providing easy access from both sidewalls of the body.

Fuel tank with recesses for storage batteries and main brake reservoirs with total capacity of 1000 l is located in the mid portion of the body frame.

Diesel locomotive control is performed from 2 cabs. The locomotive cab is equipped with modern ergonomic control panel where a color graphical display, information displays of the locomotive complex safety device КLUB-U and controls are located. The design of control panel is patented by Kolomensky Zavod. High-strength windscreen and side windows as well as rear-view mirror are electrically heated. Electric screen wipers of pantograph type are provided. The cab has a heating and air conditioning system.

The locomotive body rests on two 3-axle bogies with soft 2-stage spring suspension and hydraulic shock absorbers in the first and second stage, having spring linkage with the body in horizontal plane. Bogies have separate drive of wheel pairs, frame-supported suspension of traction electric motors, jawless drive axle-boxes. Driving of wheel pairs is through traction gearbox and shallow cardan shaft with hinge and lever couplings, rolling bearings in the seat of the traction gearbox driven gear. Traction and brake forces are transmitted from the bogie frame to the locomotive body by means of pivot mechanism providing rotation and free vertical movement of the body relative to bogie as well as its loose placement while swaying.

To reduce wearing of wheels and side surface of rails the locomotive is equipped with patented wheel flange lubricators.

The locomotive brake equipment includes friction brakes with pneumatic and electro-pneumatic control, electric (rheostat) brake rated 3200 kW, manually operated parking friction brake. Electric rheostat brake is arranged in roof block above high voltage chamber and includes blocks of resistors, motor-fans with electric motors 4PNZH200МАUKHL2 and air intake channels.

The locomotive is equipped with brake compressor driven by d. c. electric motor DPТ-25 UKHL2 rated 25 kW at rated speed 1000 rpm and a block of braking apparatus. To improve reliability of braking equipment an air drying system patented by Kolomensky Zavod is employed.

The shaft of traction generator drives axial-flow fan of the centralized air supply system via rubber-cord coupling. The fan provides air cooling of traction generator, traction electric motors, rectifying unit and high-voltage chamber where electric equipment is installed. The fan draws in air through multicyclone low maintenance filter arranged in roof block above the fan and it is supplied to electric equipment by channels in the body frame. Multicyclone filter provides air cleaning of dust, moisture and snow which are removed from the filter by electrically driven centrifugal suction fan and are discharged into the atmosphere. The degree of air cleaning is 75%.

Noise silencer and 2-stage air cleaner are arranged above engine turbocharger. The first stage of the air cleaner is multicyclone filter from which dust, moisture and snow are removed by suction fan and the second stage – cardboard filtering elements. The degree of air cleaning is 99,5%. The air cleaner and noise silencer are patented by Kolomensky Zavod.

On the other end of the engine cooling unit comprising 46 sections, 2 fans with directing vanes and side shutters is arranged and reduction gear of cooling fan hydraulic actuator is driven. The cooling system of the engine has 2 circuits. The engine thermal conditions are maintained by automatic coolant temperature control system by lifting shutters or by means of directing vanes, by smooth changing of fan speed depending on the temperature of water in the circuit.

The engine is started by starter-generator 6SGU2 from storage battery 48ТN-450ТМ. Starter-generator is installed on traction unit and is driven from the engine. The voltage in the control circuits is 10 V.

Microprocessor-based control and diagnostic system МSU-ТE provides locomotive control in the traction and electric rheostat braking mode, control of power supply generator, of wheel flange lubricator as well as display of warning and emergency information, interaction with safety system КLUB-U and other systems, diagnostics of main equipment components and self-diagnostics.

To provide power supply of train cars the locomotive is equipped with power supply system rated 600 kW (d. c., 3000 V) comprising auxiliary generator of traction unit АSТ 2800/600-1000U2, rectifying unit and switchgear. Train car power supply system creates comfortable conditions for passengers, improves working conditions for train attendants and helps eliminate harmful emissions.

The locomotive is equipped with radio station, remote control of driver wakefulness ТSКBМ, automatic device for emergency stop of the train and automatic gas fire extinguishing system.
